When I first came across Job Moves, something clicked.

I’ve seen so many people—friends, family, even students—struggle with choosing the right job. Some stay in jobs that drain them. Others jump into new roles, only to realize it wasn’t what they expected.

The truth is, finding the right job isn’t just about picking a good company or getting a higher salary. It’s about making progress in life—moving toward the kind of person you want to become.

Every year, about one billion people around the world change jobs.

A few are lucky enough to find something that fits them perfectly. But most don’t feel happier after the move. That’s what makes this book so important.

It gives us a new way to think about work—one that puts you in charge of your career, not just the hiring manager or job market.

The authors—Ethan Bernstein, Michael Horn, and Bob Moesta—explain that a job is more than just something we do. It’s something we hire to help us solve a problem or reach a goal.

Just like we hire a phone to stay connected, or a backpack to carry our things, we hire jobs to give us purpose, growth, and stability.

This idea comes from something called the “Jobs to Be Done” theory.

It teaches us to look at what we really need at a certain moment in our lives. Are we looking for more meaning? More money? A fresh start?

The book gives helpful tools to understand what you’re truly looking for in a job—and how to find it.

Reading Job Moves can give you a new sense of direction.

It will help you see that you don’t have to settle or guess when it comes to your career. You can make thoughtful, informed choices that lead to more joy and progress.

I hope this summary is helpful to you in whatever stage in your career you might be.

Begin your journey to building a happier, more fulfilling work life—one job move at a time.
